The Consul-General, ad honorem

Hon. Consul-General Emilie Pe Shi, has been in New Zealand for the past 15 years, prior to that she lived with her husband, Dr. Kenneth Shi, a dental surgeon and two children in Hong Kong for almost 30 years.

Born in Palawan, Philippines, Consul-General Shi spent her childhood in the pristine beaches and natural landscape of one of the most bio-diverse island in the Philippines. She later moved to Manila to attend the University of East, Faculty of Business Administration and did further studies at the Ateneo De Manila University Graduate School of Economics and Business Administration before sojourning to New York where she undertook Business and Marketing Courses.

While living in Hong Kong, Consul-General Shi was the President and Managing Director of Cliff-Rence Brothers Ltd and director of 16 other companies which export sportswear for tennis and golf to the United States, Europe, Japan and other S.E.A. countries. She was inducted into the prestigious Institute of Marketing, Hong Kong in 1981. And, in 1989, was also elected a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in Berkshire, England. Her 1981 induction to the Institute of Marketing, Hong Kong was significant in that, Consul-General Shi was the first woman ever inducted to this distinguish organisation.

Migrating to New Zealand in 1994, Consul-General Shi went into partnership with a local Kiwi property developer, concentrating mainly in land and housing development in the Albany area.

She speaks English, Chinese, Spanish in addition to her national language, Filipino and several local Philippine dialects.

Apart from devoting her time to our Kababayan, Consul-General Shi is also a golf enthusiast, playing and competing here and overseas.

1980-2006: Graeme Dabb has served as an Honorary Consul-General of the Philippines in Auckland & the North Island for 26 years and has been awarded the Queen's Service Medal for his services to the Filipino Community.

He was instrumental in the naming of an Auckland reserve after Dr Jose P. Rizal, a Philippine National Hero, and the flying of the national flag on the Auckland Harbour Bridge on Independence Day. Consul-General Dabb remains an active member of the Auckland Consular Corp and the Filipino Society of New Zealand.
